Sankt Georgen am Ybbsfeld is a small rural municipality in Lower Austria, and this 20 Heller note belongs to the vast wave of Austrian Notgeld issued after the First World War when chronic coin shortages — driven first by wartime metal requisitioning, then by postwar monetary chaos — forced even minor parishes and market towns to print their own emergency fractional currency. Carl Queiser operated out of nearby Amstetten, the obvious choice for a community this size, and served as printer for a number of the surrounding district's Notgeld issues during this period.
