Opmerkingen

Selztal is a small railway junction village in Styria — its notgeld exists almost entirely because of wartime disruption to the imperial coin supply, not because the municipality had any meaningful monetary infrastructure of its own. These Gemeinde-issued heller notes were a practical stopgap, authorized under the broader Austrian notgeld wave that peaked in 1920 as coin shortages persisted well beyond the armistice.

Emil Prenzel in Steyr handled a substantial volume of municipal notgeld printing for Styrian and Upper Austrian communities during this period. The 84 × 53 mm format places this squarely among the smaller utilitarian issues rather than the decorative collector-targeted Scheine that larger towns were producing simultaneously.
