| Reverse description | The reverse carries a text-only design within a fine decorative cross-motif border. A passage in German Gothic script attributes the causes of low societal prosperity to human laziness in production and failure to take matters seriously, attributed to 'Ing. Franz Walenta'. Below, a liability clause states that the undersigned partners guarantee redemption of the voucher in legal tender, followed by three handwritten facsimile signatures. A large red diagonal overprint reading 'Zweite Auflage' (Second Issue) crosses the centre of the note. |
Zweite Auflage HERMES BUCH- U. KUNSTDRUCKEREI WIEN XVII |

Melk issued its own emergency small change — Notgeld — during the postwar coin shortage that left Austrian towns functionally unable to make everyday transactions. This second series piece was printed by Hermes in Vienna's 17th district, a press that handled a significant volume of municipal Notgeld commissions during this period.
Walter Hrinzelmein's design credit is worth noting: named local designers on Notgeld are relatively uncommon, as many municipalities simply commissioned standardized layouts from the printer directly.
