Reverse description Plain letterpress reverse in dark blue ink on cream paper within a double-line border, set entirely in Gothic script. The heading 'Gutschein der Gemeinde Lend i. Pzg.' occupies the upper portion in large display lettering, below which a redemption clause stipulates that the note loses validity unless presented at the municipal treasury in Lend within four weeks of public announcement. Centred below is the place-and-date line 'Gemeinde Lend i. Pzg., 1. Juli 1920', followed by the facsimile signature of Bürgermeister F. Brutar and, in the lower register, the countersignatures of Gemeinderäte J. Wagenbichler and F. Plenicar, disposed left and right respectively.

Comments

Lend is a small village in the Salzach valley, and like hundreds of Austrian municipalities after the First World War, it issued its own Notgeld when the central monetary system failed to supply enough small-denomination coins for everyday commerce. These emergency issues were a purely local fix — printed in tiny quantities, valid only within the issuing community, and theoretically redeemable once the crisis passed.

Three signatories authenticated this note by hand: the Bürgermeister and two members of the Gemeinderat. That personal accountability was the only guarantee backing it.
