Laa an der Thaya issued these Heller notes in 1920 as part of the vast Austrian municipal Notgeld wave — a direct consequence of the postwar coin shortage that left small-denomination currency almost entirely absent from everyday transactions. The JPR493b designation within the Jaksc catalog suggests a variant within the Laa an der Thaya series, likely differing in a control detail, paper stock, or overprint from the 'a' type. Worth confirming against the Jaksc reference before attributing.
