Kirchdorf an der Krems issued its own emergency currency — Notgeld — during the severe coin shortage that gripped Austria in the years immediately following the collapse of the Habsburg empire. Municipal and market communities across Upper Austria printed small-denomination notes to fill the gap left by hoarded and melted coinage, and Kirchdorf's series was among hundreds produced at the local level, often with minimal printing infrastructure. The three signatures here — Velutshnig, Schachner, and Begl — likely represent market commune officials rather than banking personnel.
