Imbach is a village of a few hundred souls in Lower Austria, and its wartime Heller notes belong to the enormous wave of local Notgeld that flooded Austria between roughly 1914 and 1921 as small coinage vanished from circulation almost overnight. Municipal administrations, businesses, and even individual estates printed their own fractions of a Krone to keep commerce moving. Most issues were never formally redeemed — the issuing body either dissolved, ignored its obligations, or simply ran out of funds as postwar inflation rendered the denominations meaningless before settlement could occur.
The Jaksc/Pick suffix "IIa" suggests this is one of at least two distinct types within the Imbach series, differentiated by paper stock, overprint, or date.
