| Opmerkingen |
Imbach is a village of a few hundred people tucked into the Kremstal valley, and its decision to issue emergency paper money in 1920 was entirely practical: the postwar coinage shortage hit rural Austria hard, and small denominations simply weren't reaching the countryside. The Notgeld wave that swept through Austria and Germany between 1918 and 1922 licensed thousands of municipalities — some barely larger than a parish — to print their own fractional currency, and Imbach was among the smallest to do so.
These village-level issues were typically produced in very small runs, redeemed quickly, and rarely survived in quantity. The Gemeinde's authorization to issue was self-granted under emergency convention rather than formal national sanction.
