One of thousands of Austrian municipal Notgeld issues printed during the postwar currency chaos of 1920, when the collapse of the Habsburg monetary system left local governments scrambling to produce small-denomination emergency scrip. Hofkirchen im Traunkreis is a small market commune in Upper Austria, and its three-signature authorization — Picl, Edlmayr, and Hiesmair — reflects the collective civic oversight typical of rural Austrian municipal governance rather than a single banking authority.
The Jaksc catalogue remains the primary reference for Austrian Notgeld, and JPR0387 series notes from smaller Upper Austrian communes survive in wildly uneven quantities depending on how aggressively each municipality recalled and destroyed unredeemed stock after stabilization.
