Opmerkingen

Hellmonsödt is a small market town in Upper Austria, and this 20 Heller note is a piece of Notgeld — emergency municipal currency issued during the acute coin shortages that swept Austria from around 1920. Hundreds of Austrian municipalities printed their own small-denomination paper to fill the gap left by hoarded and melted coinage, and Hellmonsödt was one of them.

L. Haase's design credit is notable mainly because most village-level Notgeld of this type was farmed out to regional printers with no individual designer credited at all.
