Haslach an der Mühl is a small market town in Upper Austria, and this 1920 Heller note is a product of the acute small-change shortage that gripped Austria-Bohemia after the collapse of the Habsburg economy. Municipal and local authorities across the region issued their own Notgeld to keep daily commerce moving when official coinage had effectively vanished from circulation. L. Hasse in Linz handled the printing — a regional press taking on exactly the kind of small-run emergency work that larger national printers had no interest in.

Three signatories authenticated the issue: two council representatives and the Bürgermeister, F. Mathie.
