Pühret is a small rural commune in the Vöcklabruck district, and this note is a product of the Notgeld wave that swept Austrian municipalities after the post-WWI currency collapse left small change effectively impossible to obtain. The printer, J. Schmitzer, was a local Schwanenstadt operation that produced Notgeld for several communes in the immediate area during this period — the designer Roithinger was almost certainly a commercial artist working from the same town rather than a specialist banknote engraver.
The signatures of Plözeneder and Gastinger represent local municipal officers, not banking officials. Notgeld at this level carried no formal guarantee beyond the issuing commune's word.
