Zur Behebung der herrschenden Hartgeldnot gibt die Gemeinde Gosau auf Grund des Gemeindeausschußbeschlusses vom 8. Mai 1920 Gutscheine bis zu einem Betrage von 50.000 Kronen aus, und hinterlegt gleichzeitig diesen Betrag als Deckung. Das Ende der Gültigkeitsdauer wird seinerzeit öffentlich verlautbart. Gosau's 1920 Heller notes belong to the vast wave of Austrian municipal notgeld issued after the collapse of the Habsburg monetary system left small communities without workable change. Gosau — a remote Alpine village in the Salzkammergut — issued these necessity notes through local authority rather than any banking institution, with Josef Posch signing as the responsible municipal official.
The 0251b designation in the Jaksch catalog indicates a variant within the Gosau series, likely differing from the 'a' type in ink color, paper stock, or overprint detail. Village-level notgeld from this region was typically printed in very small runs and redeemed quickly once Austrian National Bank coinage resumed circulation.
