Flanking the central inscription are two symmetrical olive or laurel branches rising from the lower field, framing the design in a decorative arabesque style. The Hijri date 1376 appears in Arabic-Indic numerals at the base of the central cartouche. The circular legend around the periphery, also in Arabic script, reads the Kingdom of Tunisia and Muhammad Al-Amin Premier, separated by geometric ornamental devices. The overall design reflects the traditional Islamic decorative arts aesthetic characteristic of Tunisian coinage of the period. |
