| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse features a prominent cluster of flowering hibiscus blossoms with broad petals and detailed foliage occupying the central field, rendered in high relief. The circular legend FAMOAHAMBOLAN' NY REPOBLIKA MALAGASY arcs along the upper periphery, while the date 1970 appears in the lower field flanked by two small ornamental stars. The design is the work of engraver B. Ramjato and reflects a naturalistic botanical style characteristic of Malagasy commemorative coinage of the period. |

Flanking the central motif are two symmetrical sprigs of stylized foliage. The denomination 20 FRANCS is inscribed in two lines across the upper field, while the Malagasy equivalent ARIARY EFATRA arcs along the lower periphery. The word ESSAI, denoting the trial or pattern status of the piece, appears as part of the lower legend. The reverse was engraved by Raymond Joly. |
