The Democratic Republic of Congo has issued a long-running series of coins reproducing ancient Greek types, targeting the bullion and collector market rather than domestic circulation. This 2003 piece replicates an Athenian tetradrachm design — one of the ancient world's most widely recognized coin types, circulated across the Mediterranean from roughly the 5th century BC onward as a trusted trade currency far beyond Attica's borders.
