Világítási és Vízmű Rt. was a Budapest municipal utilities company, and this 20 filléres scrip belongs to a wave of privately and municipally issued emergency money that flooded Hungary in 1920 as the postwar collapse of the korona made small coins effectively disappear from circulation. Employers, shops, transit companies, and utilities all printed their own. The practice was technically illegal but universally tolerated — the state had no practical alternative.
