Reverse description The reverse displays a coiled Chinese Imperial dragon rendered in high relief at the center of the field, shown without a surrounding circle — the so-called 'uncircled dragon' type characteristic of the earliest Kiangnan Province issues. The dragon faces right with its head turned forward, clutching a flaming pearl beneath its body, with detailed scaled body, antlered head, and clawed feet clearly defined. Encircling the dragon is a raised Latin legend reading 'KIANG NAN PROVINCE' along the upper arc and '1 MACE AND 4.4 CANDAREENS' along the lower arc, separated by six-pointed star ornaments at each side. The entire design is enclosed within a uniform beaded border. The style reflects the transitional machine-struck coinage introduced at the Nanking Mint in the late Guangxu reign.
