Lauriacum — modern Enns, in Upper Austria — was a legionary fortress and later a Roman provincial town that sat at the junction of the Danube and the Enns River. It was home to Legio II Italica from the late 2nd century and eventually became the capital of Noricum Ripense. This coin is part of Austria's long-running "Romans in Austria" commemorative series, which the Münze Österreich has used since the 1990s to systematically document Roman occupation sites across the republic's territory.
