| Obverse description | The obverse depicts the Kyrenia ship, an ancient Greek merchant vessel dating to the fourth century BC, rendered in detailed relief at the centre of the field. The wreck of this vessel, discovered off the northern coast of Cyprus, is regarded as a powerful symbol of the island's maritime heritage and its historical role as a major Mediterranean trading hub. The bilingual legend ΚΥΠΡΟΣ·KIBRIS appears along the periphery, incorporating both the Greek and Turkish designations for Cyprus, with the year of issue positioned between the two name forms. |
