Angola's 20 Escudos of 1956 belongs to the late colonial series issued under Portuguese authority, a period when Banco de Angola functioned as an overseas arm of Lisbon's monetary policy rather than an autonomous central bank. Thomas De La Rue's involvement was typical of British security printers servicing Portuguese colonial territories — Bradbury Wilkinson handled some neighboring issues, but De La Rue maintained the Angola contract through this decade.
