Obverse description At centre-left, a multicolour intaglio vignette of the grain silos and port facilities at Lobito harbour, captioned SILO NO PORTO DO LOBITO, with port cranes and a vessel visible along the waterfront. To the upper centre, the Angolan royal arms are flanked by the bank title BANCO DE ANGOLA and denomination numerals 20 at each corner, with the decree reference DECRETO Nº 12.131 DE 14 DE AGOSTO DE 1926 and the issue date 15 DE AGOSTO DE 1956 inscribed in the top border. To the right, an oval intaglio portrait of the Portuguese explorer Silva Porto, identified by a caption beneath the vignette, is set within an ornate engraved frame.

Reverse description The central vignette, executed in monochrome brown intaglio, presents a herd of antelopes in full gallop across an open savannah landscape, with acacia trees and low scrub in the background rendered in fine engraved linework. The bank title BANCO DE ANGOLA runs along the upper border, and the denomination VINTE ESCUDOS appears in a raised cartouche at the foot of the central vignette. The corners bear repeated numeral 20 devices, and the side borders are composed of interlocking geometric guilloche panels; the printer's imprint THOMAS DE LA RUE & COY. LTD LONDRES, INGLATERRA appears in small type at the base.
