| Obverse description | Central field bears the national coat of arms of the Republic of Liberia, depicting a three-masted sailing ship at sea beside a palm tree with a rising sun on the horizon, above crossed implements and a plow, all within a shield surmounted by a scroll bearing the motto THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE. The shield is flanked by decorative foliage, with a banner below reading REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA. The date 1997 appears on either side of the shield.
