| Obverse description | The obverse features the arms of the Republic of Liberia prominently at centre, depicting a sailing ship at sea beside a palm tree with a rising sun on the horizon, all within a heraldic shield supported by a scroll bearing the national motto THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE. The shield is flanked by crossed swords and surmounted by a dove in flight. The legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA arcs along the upper periphery, with the denomination 20 DOLLARS inscribed along the lower border. The date 2000 is divided across the lower field on either side of the arms, and a fine beaded border frames the entire design. |

| Reverse description | The reverse presents a dramatic panoramic composition of iconic Roman landmarks rendered in fine relief against a mirror-like proof field. In the left foreground, the multi-tiered arched facade of the Colosseum dominates the lower portion of the design, while the Spanish Steps with their sweeping staircase and the twin-towered church of Trinita dei Monti occupy the right middle ground. At centre, a large classical sculptural figure — evoking the seated river god from the Fontana dei Fiumi — is depicted within a columned architectural niche, with the inscription CLEMENS XII PONT. MAX. ANNO MDCCXXIII appearing on the entablature above. The city name ROMA is inscribed in the upper left field, and the denomination $20 appears in the lower exergue. |
