| Obverse description | The central field features the full coat of arms of the Republic of Liberia, depicting a shield with a sailing ship at sea, a palm tree, and a rising sun, flanked by an anchor and a plough, surmounted by a dove in flight, and supported by a scroll bearing the national motto THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE. The date 1998 is split to either side of the arms, with '19' to the left and '98' to the right. The outer legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA arcs across the upper field, while the lower field carries the denomination inscription ONE OUNCE 20 DOLLARS FINE SILVER. The Pobjoy Mint mark 'PM' appears to the lower left of the arms. |
