| 表面の説明 | The central field features the coat of arms of Liberia, depicting a sailing ship on the sea, a rising sun, and a palm tree on shore, all beneath an arched banner inscribed THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE. The date 1999 is divided on either side of the shield, flanked by a dove in flight. The outer legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA arcs above, with a second inscription REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA appearing on a scroll below the arms. The denomination and silver specification FIVE OUNCES 20 DOLLARS FINE SILVER are inscribed along the lower rim. The design is struck in proof quality with deeply mirrored fields and frosted devices, surrounded by a reeded border. |

Liberia's late-1990s collector coinage was largely produced under licensing arrangements with foreign distributors — the Monrovia government collected a flat fee while private minting firms in Germany and elsewhere handled everything from design to distribution. This particular issue appeared while Liberia was still fractured by the First Liberian Civil War's aftermath, making the "Marine Life Protection" theme a peculiar contrast to the country's actual preoccupations at the time.
The five-troy-ounce format was a deliberate play at the bullion-collector crossover market then gaining traction in the late 1990s.
