| Obverse description | The central field bears the full coat of arms of Liberia, depicting a three-masted sailing ship at sea, a palm tree with a rising sun, and a plough and spade in the exergue, all within a wreathed shield surmounted by a scroll bearing the national motto THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE. The legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA arcs along the upper periphery in large raised letters, and is repeated on a ribbon scroll at the lower periphery. The date 2001 is split to either side of the shield, with 20 to the left and 01 to the right. |

Liberia's early 2000s commemorative program was one of the most prolific — and commercially cynical — in modern numismatic history. The country licensed its minting authority to produce coins honoring subjects with no connection to Liberia whatsoever, sold through telemarketers and home shopping channels targeting collectors unfamiliar with the secondary market. This Luxembourg piece is a product of that era, struck almost certainly at a European private mint and never intended to circulate.
Collector demand has remained negligible since issue; the series saturated its own market within years of launch.
