| Descrizione del dritto | The obverse features the uncrowned effigy of King George VI in left-facing profile, rendered in a clean, sculptural style adapted from the original portrait by Humphrey Paget. The king is depicted without regalia, with naturally styled hair and a plain truncation. The circular legend, interrupted by a beaded inner border, reads GEORGIVS VI D : G : REX ET IND : IMP, referencing his titles as King and Emperor of India by the grace of God. At the base of the field, the denomination 20 DOLLARS is inscribed, flanked by a small Victory torch-and-V motif at lower left, and the engraver's initials HP appear at the truncation. A beaded border runs along the inner edge of the rim. |

Issued in 2020 to mark the 75th anniversary of V-E Day, this coin commemorates the moment — May 8, 1945 — when Germany's unconditional surrender ended six years of war in Europe. Canada's contribution to that outcome was substantial: over one million Canadians served, and the country had built the third-largest Allied naval fleet by war's end. The Royal Canadian Mint has issued numerous V-E Day commemoratives over the decades, but the 75th anniversary cycle drew particular attention given the dwindling number of surviving veterans who witnessed the original celebrations in person.
