The Normandy Campaign commemorative sits within a long-running Royal Canadian Mint program marking the 75th anniversaries of major Second World War engagements. Canada's role at Juno Beach on June 6, 1944 was substantial — the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division and 2nd Canadian Armoured Brigade pushed further inland than any other Allied force that day, reaching objectives assigned to D+3 within hours of landing.
Issued in George VI's name, though purely nominal — the King had no role in RCM commemorative policy by this date.
