Issued as part of the RCM's long-running commemorative program marking the centenary of the First World War, this piece focuses on the strategic bombing campaigns conducted by Canadian aircrew — a dimension of the war effort that sat uneasily in public memory for decades. Bomber Command's contribution was controversial enough that a dedicated memorial in London wasn't unveiled until 2012, nearly seventy years after the war's end.
The coin was struck in .9999 fine silver, a purity standard the RCM adopted aggressively in the 2000s to differentiate its bullion and collector output from competitors.
