| 表面の説明 | The full shield of the Liberian coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a sailing ship at sea, a palm tree, a rising sun, a dove in flight, and a cannon in the foreground, all enclosed within a decorative wreath. A banner above the shield bears the national motto THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE. The legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA arcs along the upper periphery, and the same inscription is repeated on a scroll at the base of the shield. The date 2002 is divided by the coat of arms, with '20' to the left and '02' to the right in the field. |

Liberia's early 2000s commemorative program was frankly opportunistic — the country was in the grip of Charles Taylor's regime and a civil war that would displace hundreds of thousands, yet the mint contracts were farmed out to foreign producers churning collector pieces for export revenue. Mannerheim, a Finnish military commander and statesman who led Finland through both the Winter War against the Soviet Union and the Continuation War, had no connection to Liberia whatsoever.
These were sold abroad, never intended for Liberian circulation.
