| Obverse description | The central field bears the coat of arms of Liberia, featuring a sailing ship, a palm tree, a rising sun, a dove, and a plough, all enclosed within a shield surmounted by a scroll bearing the national motto. The date '2000' is split across the left and right fields flanking the arms. The outer legend 'REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA' arcs along the upper rim, with a secondary legend 'REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA' appearing below the shield. Fort Sumter entered Confederate hands on April 14, 1861, after a 34-hour bombardment — and remarkably, not a single Union soldier died in combat during the assault itself. Two died the following day when a cannon misfired during the evacuation salute. Liberia's prolific commemorative program around the millennium leaned heavily on American Civil War subjects, producing a string of silver issues for the collector market with no domestic circulation intended.
