Issued in the final months of Elizabeth II's life, this piece was released while she was still reigning — she died in September 2022 before the year's commemorative program had concluded. The Royal Canadian Mint had been producing tribute issues for decades, but this one sits in an awkward historical position: a tribute coin struck for a living monarch who would not survive the year it was dated.
