| Obverse description | The obverse presents four successive official effigies of Queen Elizabeth II arranged within ornate scrollwork cartouches at the cardinal points of the field, chronicling her portraiture across seven decades of Canadian coinage. At the top appears the mature, uncrowned effigy as used on contemporary Canadian issues; to the left is a youthful, bare-headed portrait recalling the earliest Gillick-style effigy; to the right appears a diademed effigy wearing the Lover's Knot Tiara, associated with the Machin portrait era; and at the bottom is depicted the crowned effigy from the Arnold Machin generation of coinage. The central field bears a raised circular border enclosing the legend ELIZABETH II and D·G·REGINA with the date 2021. The four portraits are united by an elaborate acanthus and scroll relief design that fills the surrounding field in high relief. |
