Obverse description The obverse features an architectural framework in high relief replicating the ornate Baroque façade of Berlin Cathedral, with flanking pilasters, carved cherubs, and a cross motif above the date 2017 at the top. At the center is a large rectangular colored insert depicting a luminous stained-glass window scene of the Nativity, with the Virgin Mary and the Christ Child at center, surrounded by angels and attendant figures rendered in warm amber and golden tones. At the lower portion of the coin, within a circular cartouche, appears the right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II as engraved by Ian Rank-Broadley, with the surrounding legend ELIZABETH II COOK ISLANDS and the denomination 20 DOLLARS.

Reverse description The reverse presents a richly gilded architectural surround in high relief, evoking the interior decorative scheme of Berlin Cathedral with elaborate Baroque cornices, acanthus scrollwork, and winged putti rendered in gold-highlighted relief. The central field contains a large rectangular colored insert reproducing the stained-glass Nativity window of Berlin Cathedral, depicting the Virgin Mary with the newborn Christ Child illuminated at center, with adoring angels above and shepherds and animals in the lower register, all suffused in warm golden light. The lower margin bears the inscriptions MASTERPIECES OF CRAFTS and BERLIN CATHEDRAL in bold serif lettering, accompanied by a heraldic lion emblem at the lower right.
