Hogan's Alley was Vancouver's predominantly Black neighborhood centered on Park Lane in Strathcona, razed in the early 1970s when the city extended the Georgia Viaduct through it — a decision made with little community consultation and one that displaced hundreds of residents and shuttered businesses that had anchored Black life in the city since the 1920s. The name itself came from a comic strip, applied colloquially and eventually absorbed into the neighborhood's own identity.
The Royal Canadian Mint's ongoing commemorative program has increasingly turned toward overlooked histories of this kind. Whether this particular issue gains traction as a series entry or remains a standalone is an open question.
