Brazil's Tesouro Nacional relied on Thomas De La Rue throughout the mid-century period for its higher-denomination paper, and this second printing of the 20 Cruzeiros follows that arrangement. The "autographed" designation refers to the manuscript signatures applied by treasury officials — a practice the Tesouro maintained long after most issuing authorities had moved to facsimile printed signatures, partly as a fraud-control measure and partly institutional inertia.
Second-printing examples of P#144 are less frequently encountered than the first, though the distinction between printings is often overlooked by generalist collectors unfamiliar with the series.
