Obverse description Three-quarter facing bust of King Sobhuza II, turned slightly to the left, depicted wearing a traditional draped collar garment. The effigy occupies the central field with strong relief, engraved in a naturalistic style. The legend SWAZILAND INDEPENDENCE arcs along the upper periphery in bold Latin capitals, while SOBHUZA II is inscribed along the lower arc. The engraver's initials T.S. appear in the lower field beneath the bust.

Reverse description A traditional Swazi oval cowhide war shield centered in the field, overlaid with three vertical assegai spears passing behind and above it, their tips emerging at the top. The design is rendered in fine relief against a plain field, with the engraver's initials Y.S. visible below the base of the shield. The denomination 20c is inscribed in the lower left arc and the date 1968 in the lower right arc, both in Latin numerals.
