The Monnaie de Paris struck piedfort patterns in 1920 as part of ongoing internal evaluations of proposed circulating types — thick-flan strikes produced at double or greater weight for examination by mint officials and, occasionally, presentation to government ministers. This particular copper piece relates to post-WWI monetary discussions in France, when the heavily debased wartime coinage system was under review and small-denomination reforms were actively being considered.
It never led to a circulating issue in this form. The 20-centime denomination in copper was quietly abandoned as aluminum and aluminum-bronze alternatives gained favor through the 1920s.
