| 正面描述 | Central field features a detailed depiction of a full-rigged sailing ship at anchor, with a small rowing boat bearing figures visible in the foreground waters below the vessel's hull. The composition is framed by an open laurel wreath extending along both sides of the field. The legend SAINT HELENA arcs along the upper periphery in bold serif capital letters. The overall design evokes Saint Helena's historic maritime heritage as a waystation on southern sea routes. |

Saint Helena never adopted a decimal coinage reform, which is precisely why this piece exists only as a pattern. The 2004 series of decimal trial strikes was produced to explore a potential currency overhaul that would bring the island's coinage in line with modern Commonwealth practice — a reform that was ultimately shelved. Nordic gold, the copper-aluminum-zinc-tin alloy developed by the Swedish company Nordic Brass AB in the 1990s, was by 2004 the preferred specification for new decimal low-denomination trials across several small-issue territories.
