Uruguay's 1976 military government commissioned several pattern strikes as it reconsidered the country's coinage system following years of inflation that had gutted the peso's purchasing power. This nickel silver piece never advanced to circulation — the denomination itself was effectively redundant by the time the patterns were struck, and the reform that followed opted for different specifications entirely.
