The sun motif, a national symbol of Uruguay, occupies the majority of the coin's face and is executed in high relief. A toothed border frames the design. The circular legend reads REPUBLICA ORIENTAL DEL URUGUAY arcing from lower left to upper right, with the date 1857 positioned in the lower exergue flanked by small decorative flourishes. |

Central field displays the large numeral '20' set within a horizontally engine-turned (lined) circular medallion, above which the denomination legend CENTESIMOS curves along the upper arc of the inner circle. The central medallion is encircled by a wreath of laurel and olive branches, tied at the base with a ribbon bow. The mint mark 'D' (for the Lyon Mint) appears at the bottom of the field, below the wreath. A toothed border runs along the rim. |
