The "smaller head" designation distinguishes this from the earlier 20 centavos type — a die modification made during Perón's second term, shortly before his September 1955 ouster in the *Revolución Libertadora*. Post-coup, the provisional government systematically withdrew coinage bearing Peronist iconography, though these pieces circulated long enough afterward that worn examples are the rule rather than the exception.
