The "smaller head" designation distinguishes this from the earlier 20 centavos type — a die modification made during Perón's second term, shortly before his September 1955 ouster in the *Revolución Libertadora*. Post-coup, the provisional government systematically withdrew coinage bearing Peronist iconography, though these pieces circulated long enough afterward that worn examples are the rule rather than the exception. The smooth edge separates it cleanly from the milled-edge predecessor without requiring die attribution.
