Apayao's wartime emergency issues are among the most locally produced notes of the entire Philippine guerrilla currency program. The Sub-province of Apayao, tucked into the northern Cordillera of Luzon, operated under severe material constraints during the Japanese occupation, and its script reflects that — rough printing, limited paper stock, and denomination values calibrated for small daily transactions in a barter-adjacent economy where Japanese military scrip was distrusted and American backing still carried psychological weight.
