The Central Negros Sector guerrilla currency was produced under American officers who had evaded Japanese capture after the fall of the Philippines in 1942 and reorganized resistance forces across the Visayas. By 1944, several Philippine guerrilla commands — operating with varying degrees of formal USAFFE authorization — were issuing their own emergency notes to pay troops and procure supplies from local civilians, who were expected to accept them on the promise of postwar redemption.
