正面描述 Central field bears the four-character Chinese legend 光緒元寶 (Guangxu Yuanbao, 'Guangxu Precious Currency') arranged in a large format within a dotted inner circle. The upper outer legend reads 大清銅幣 (Da Qing Tong Bi, 'Copper Coin of the Great Qing'), while the Manchu script legend ᠪᠠᡩᠠᡵᠠᠩᡤᠠ ᡩᠣᡵᠣ curves around the upper periphery between the dotted circle and the milled border. The mint authority 戶部 (Hu Poo, Board of Revenue) appears at the left, and the denomination 二十文 (Twenty Cash) is inscribed at the lower outer field. Small decorative rosette ornaments flank the central legend at the three and nine o'clock positions, and the entire design is framed by a prominent milled edge.

背面描述 Central device depicts a front-facing Imperial Chinese dragon in high relief, its sinuous scaly body coiling dynamically around the field, claws outstretched and head facing the viewer with an open mouth and flowing whiskers. Flame and cloud motifs surround the dragon, rendered in fine detail consistent with the standard Qing imperial coinage style. The legend HU POO arcs across the upper periphery in incuse Latin capitals, identifying the Imperial Board of Revenue as issuing authority. The denomination 20 CASH is inscribed in two lines at the lower field, flanked by six-pointed star ornaments at the three and nine o'clock positions. A dotted inner border separates the central device from the peripheral legends, and the coin is enclosed by a milled outer rim.
