Obverse description Central field bears four principal Chinese ideograms arranged in a cruciform reading pattern, top to bottom and right to left, flanked by a decorative floral rosette at centre. The entire central motif is encircled by a continuous band of Chinese and Manchu inscriptions denoting the provincial mint authority, reign title, and denomination. The legend reads in Chinese characters naming Chekiang Province and the Guangxu Emperor, accompanied by Manchu script identifying the Boo-je mint. The design is executed in low relief with fine detail characteristic of provincial machine-struck coinage of the late Qing dynasty.
