Issued to mark the centenary of Siriraj Hospital's nursing and midwifery school, one of Thailand's oldest medical institutions, founded under royal patronage in the reign of Rama V. The commemorative program under Rama IX was prolific throughout the 1990s — the Royal Thai Mint produced dozens of bimetallic and copper-nickel 20 baht pieces for causes ranging from medical anniversaries to international organizations, most of which saw negligible circulation and ended up in collector sets.
