Skotoussa was a Thessalian city whose civic coinage history ends violently: Philip II of Macedon destroyed the city around 344 BC following its alliance with the Phocians during the Third Sacred War. This issue almost certainly dates to the decades immediately preceding that destruction, making the terminal date of the series a political erasure rather than a natural cessation of minting activity.
